String problem

Is there a string-function for stripping the backslash in front of quotes (\") when I print the contents of a file on a webpage?

I should also need a function that converts: å to a Norwegian "å", which it should be displayed as🙂

If you have a look on the http://www.php.net site there is a function called substr_replace() . That may be what you need, but all of the string functions (I think) are in the column of links on the left hand side, it's interesting reading the comments on the functions there to find answers.
