mail() function!!!

Ok here's my problem.

I've been searching PHP.net up and down and tried the examples they have listed. Now, for some reason I can't send an email!

It's my understanding that the SMTP has to be changed in the php.ini file..

Is this where I change the information?

SMTP = localhost ; for Win32 only

sendmail_from = [e-mail] ; for Win32 only

what do I change about it?
I'm running windows xp and using IIS
all I want to do is email an HTML page to myself so I can test this mail() function

I just started working with PHP today and I would really like to figure this crap out...... pleeez help!

You have to put a VALID SMTP server after SMTP = in PHP.ini.

Example :
[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
SMTP = smtp.YOUR_PROVIDER.com ; for Win32 only

Don't forget to restart the server.

The mail() function seems to be working fine now. I tested it by emailing a message to myself and I received it fine. As for adding extra headers and stuff I still need to fully grasp that part.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to send an HTML document or PHP file using the mail() function.

Learnin' new things.. fun stuff
