5 Lines in a File

How would I go about adding a line from a text field to a file when someone clicks submit? I understand how to post it, but what kind of coding would I use. I suppose I would use fputs, but I need to make it so the file will only hold the last 5 names submitted. I guess I'll need it to check to see if there is => 5 files, and if so, delete the oldest line and add the newer one. Please help me. Thanks!!

When I use that script, it overwrites the file, and doesn't add more than one line to it... How can I fix this so it works

Um, sorry.
Like this:
....

if (($c = count($a)) == 5)
   unset($a[0]);

$a[$c] = $posted_line;

This one should be better 🙂

Would I replace the ---- $a[5] = $posted_line; ---- line with that? I dont see where to put it ... sorry. thanks! 🙂

Replace two lines (unset($a[0]) and $a[5] = ... ) with these three.

An alternative would of course be to array_push() the line onto the head of the array, and then write out (no more than) the first five lines of the array.

You could further use array_pad() and make sure that there are five lines to write out (even if some of them are blank), and then you don't need to check that when you do the loop.

Well, this is working, the only problem is that it's not adding a line break. I know I need a \n somewhere, but I cant find where :-/ ..

EDIT: Actually, It keeps adding inputs even if it's more than five. I think it might be because it's not adding breaks in the text file. hmm
