Word limiting

I have some code which limits a string on its number of words. The code is:

$content = $myrow[content];
$chars = 49; // How many characters to display
if($chars > strlen($content)){$characters = strlen($content);} else {$characters = $chars;}
$content = substr($content, 0, strpos($content, ' ',$characters));

however is there a better way to limit the words? am not sure this always works either.

Hello!

You could just say:

$content=substr($myrow[content],0,49);

Your string will always be limited to 49.
It should'nt make a diff if the string is shorter that 49.

I remember at Tutorialforums.com not sure what the topic was. But it had something similar to this. It used an explode or split.

Then it used a for each() to count the spaces. From there that counted the words.

Hope i gave you some ideas. You may wanna do a search on those forums. But i couldnt find it again

That just limits my characters however I need words so I don't get an ugly string that doesn't make sense.

I suggest trying to do something with what i said. Its the only thing i can think of at the moment that would work. There isnt a function that can do it.

Ok, so maaaaaybe this is what you are looking for...

 $content = $myrow[content];
 $content=substr($content,0,49);
 $content=substr($content,0,strrpos($content," "));
