clearing the $HTTP_POST_VARS array

I would like to set the values that are being posted to my script to null or just throw the whole array out.
How is this done?
I was using while(list($key, $value) = each($HTTP_POST_VARS))
to loop through the elements and then I tried using both unset on each and setting each $key and $value to "" but this appears to only be working on a copy, because it works in the loop but then the original $HTTP_POST_VARS array is still available for use.
Any suggestions?

try doing unset($HTTP_POST_VARS) before anything else..

I don't think that you can clear this array, and i don't understand why you would want to ??

Thank you for the thoughts, unset did not work on the HTTP_POST_VARS array.
I am creating a large number of variables on the fly by tagging a number onto the end and posting them back to the same script, I am then accessing them by the $$ notation, however in a certain circumstance I check if something is set and then I do not want all these variables to be set - thus the wish to get rid of the post_vars_array.
I may be going about this the wroung way,
