Does anyone know how to perminently change the datestyle on PostgreSQL 7.2.1 used on a Red hat 7.3 box? I had done this once by changing the postgres.conf file on a Debian box, but it appears that this release is different...

How the date is configured doesn't change by the unix-flavour. Perhaps you are just editing the wrong file?

Well, the config option isn't in the Red Hat version, and in my dealings with Red Hat, they have a certain way of configuring the RPM's to meet their needs...

Do you know of a different file that it could be in?

It should still be postgresql.conf because that is what postgresql looks for, but I wonder wether the one you are editing is the one that is actually used by postgres itself.

Try looking for the file(s) using find:

find / -name "postgresql.conf"

and see wether there are more than one of these.

And doing the same change you did before doesn't work after a pgsql restart?

Have you checked the pgsql manual?

BTW, did you know that postgresql have released 7.3 which has a few nifty new features and additions to it's SQL support?
