validation

im trying to validate a date input box to the date format DD/MM/YY. i am using this code

preg_match('/^ ([0-9]{1,2})+ \ / ([0-9]{1,2})+ \ / ([0-9]{1,2}) /')

this does not work as the / is confusing php. does anyone know how to validate this type of date using slashes(/) ?

Try this -

preg_match("/^([0-9]{1,2})\/([0-9]{1,2})\/([0-9]{1,2})$/", $input);

That would work but its flawed. I dont have an answer except use mktime which may validate it.

Whats wrong with what nnichols gave you. Is this

[0-9] is all digits from 0 - 9

meaning the date can be like this

90/56/90 or something else.
Now mktime probably wont work, as a validator but its worth a try
