timestamps

Is there a way to compare a timestamp recorded in the database, to the current timestamp, and determine how much time is in between the two.

14:02:02 is the time in the database

it is

15:03:25 current time

How can I tell how much time has passed to help expire someones account?

Give this a try -

SELECT SEC_TO_TIME(TIME_TO_SEC(CURRENT_TIME) - TIME_TO_SEC(col_name)) AS elapsed FROM tbl_name

This will return "hh:mm:ss" format for the difference between the time stored in "tbl_name.col_name" and the "CURRENT_TIME".
