Absolute beginner

I'm not going to try to kid myslef...I know absolutely nothing about PHP..BUT, have downloaded some code and now have no idea of to do with it.

It's code that prompts for a username and password..it looks good and works great on the site I got it from...but where to from here????

Any help, pointers, much appreciated.

i suggest u take a few looks at the official PHP manual which is downloadable from www.php.net...it helps a lot n u've got a ready reference for it anytime.

U certainly need at least three things now: -
1. php software (www.php.net)
2. a web server - u can try from many, though i suggest a free and powerful one, Apache (www.apache.org)
3. a database (u can use practically any database). i suggest MySQL, also a free and powerful database server. (www.mysql.com)

take ur time 2 go thru the PHP manual and try out ur code. I'm sure u'll enjoy learning PHP 🙂

I dont suggest a Newbie should look into the manual until they get some functions from Tutorials. PHP Manual.I suggest a quick look at Spoono.com

Might I recommend Programming PHP by Rasmus Lerdorf (PHP's inventor) and Kevin Tatroe, or is suggesting people actually read books to learn languages considered unspeakably gauche?
