Help! PHP site ??? with news posting

Hello...

I'm new to this forum and new into the more dynamic realms of web programming. I need some help. I have a hip hop web site I'm working on. I want to create the site mostly as a template, so the navigation links and anything else that should stay static on the sides stays static. and I also want to be able to post news on my site. I'm just starting to work on this and i was wondering the best way to go about this....

here's some examples of what i'm talking about from other sites:

Like I said, I'm a newcomer. also, what is the advantages of asp vs php for doing sites like these? and what is some good online documentation to go about developing sites similar to these?

PHP vs ASP well one thing is one is free the other can cost money.

Ok i suggest PHP, although its recommended to learn ASP, but i dont think its a good way to start.

First id look at some tutorials at Spoono.com they have some very good PHP Tutorials for Beginners. Now you can goto this site. And search through the articles.

Also another one oxyscripts.com is quite good.

Ok... another question....

You say that PHP is for all platforms. I have my web site running from a windows hosting. and i'm not too experienced in database management, and most of the documentation talks about mySQL. on my hosting, it has ODBC connections....

can someone sort this out for me a lil bit, because i'm a bit confused??? any online documentation on odbc data sources or mySQL would be great also....

and if it's a good idea to switch to a linux hosting, let me know, because i'll switch if i have to....

actually i dont think my windows hosting supports php...

Switch to PHP/MySQL hosting. I don't know exactly about USA, but in Europe year fee for PHP/MySQL is about $100, and for ASP/MSSQL - $150.
