Order By question

I'm using ORDER BY to sort a list of titles in ASC order.

Right now, a title called "A Stupid Book" is grouped with the A's instead of with the S's, where I would like it.

Can certain words, such as "A" or "The" at the beginning of the title be ignored, for more accurate sorting?

I'm a complete newbie and any help would be appreciated. 🙂

the simplest solution would be to store titles such as that in the following format:

Stupid Book (A)
Importance of Being Ernest (The)

etc etc

AFAIK, MySQL will only search the entire string held in the database column, it cannot selectively ignore common words. To do that, you'd need to query via MySQL into a new array and then query the array with a php function to eliminate the words you want to ignore.

I guess I'll be careful of how people format titles in that field until I get more comfortable with coding.
