Priority

What would be a good Idea to build a priority system to a SQL table?

Can't use IDs or Dates.

One is to have a field were I could insert numbers like
10, 20, 30, 35, 40 and so on, but I think it is a bit troublesome when the table gets large,

Is there anyone out there who has a good solution to this?
