Viewing directory

I've seen in many script that you have to type a full directory (not the url to your page, but the other one.... if you know what i mean).
Does anyone have a script, in both php and html, for viewing those directory-adresses?? I don't know how else I could find out what my directory adress to one of my pages are like.....

I am assuming you mean the LOCAL dir, like /usr/home/elvis/www/

getcwd();
