Persistent Data between scripts

Is there any way to keep variable data in between script runs? I have some temporary daily data that needs only be kept in memory and reported on at the end of the day.

I know in ASP this would be the Application() object, is there something similar in php?

Maybe this isn't the answer you're looking for but the only way I know how to store data is witth session varianbles and databases.

The problem with session variables is that they are destroyed as soon as the user logs off.

By storing in a database you can later retrive the info and do what you want with it, then erase it.

Well, basically I want to keep a count of how often each client calls the server. There is a program I have written which uses web url's to report data back to a database, some clients are connecting too frequently and I simply need to store a running count of how many times each client (unique id) access's the page and send an email at the end of each day.

The problem with using a database scenario is that its too processor intensive to use the sql database routines for this, is there any other way?

You can hold arrarys or variables in sesion variables The values can later be posted to the datadase or wherever else when the user logs out.

You could write the files to a page(flat file) that is acessed and processed at the end of the day, either by php, mysql or both,

Hmm, so I take it there is no Application() equivilent or something that will keep data between scripts (and between sessions) in memory eh?

Was hoping to avoid using a flatfile..
