How do I force the browser to obtain new data?

On one of my websites I have the direct URL go to a page where MYSQL dat is outputed, currently I have a simple refresh to obtain the latest information, otherwise the browser will not attempt it. So how, without the refresh do I force the browser to see if there is new data.

Since PHP is server side, the only way of accessing updated info is with a refresh. Only javascript would work for this kind of thing, since it's client-side rather than server side.
