I start to work on linux (suse) and I have a problem with my desktop.

My question is what is the syntax to connect mysql from the console?
connect ????

and another question: how can I change the setting to let me access to the db from other machines?

To connect from the console type:
mysql -u[username] -p

your password will be asked.

In order to get permission to acces from other machine you have to modify your mysql table. See the documantation from mysql to do this (Chapter 4.3.5)
for example (when logged in as root):

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON . TO user@"%" IDENTIFIED BY 'some_pass' WITH GRANT OPTION;
