plain text in mail from db

I have a a form that uses the mail() function to send the results from a db query. The text stored in the db is longtext. Currently, I have line breaks in the text between paragraphs. However, when the content of the query is put into the mail function the resulting e-mail shows \r\n where the breaks are and \\before apostrophe s.

How can I input our output the data so that it has the proper line breaks in plain text?

you may want to just run the output you get from the query through a filter before you stick in the mail function. you can use eregi_replace to replace the linebreaks (\n\r) and to get rid of the slashes in front of apostrophes.

I added

$msgcontent = eregi_replace("\r\n"," ",$newsContent);

and dropped $msgcontent into the mail() function. I'm still getting \r\n in my e-mail.

My mail client should know that it is plain text since I added the header:

$headers= "From: $FromName\r\n" .

"MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n" .
"Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1\r\n" .
"Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\r\n";

Even if I can get \r\n out of the e-mail messages I still need line breaks between paragraphs.

I'm still in need of some help.

my experience with the mail() function is that it doesn't like the \r, but it will use the \n when needed, don't have any suggestions for the apos's though

The text in my database does not have \r or \n. Somehow when the e-mail is sent \r and \n are included. I think the line breaks in the plain text is being seen and \r and \n are being added, but I don't know for sure.

Here's the code I'm using to send the message and the eregi_replace:

This is the result that I see in my Outlook 2002 e-mail client.

What started out as a damp, summer morning turned cooler and wetter by the middle of the ceremony. I tried running an eregi_replace to get rid of the \\\'s, but the same number of slashes appeared in the output. The breaks in my text were done using a carriage return since the text was entered through a form. I need to be able to get the slashes, \r\n out and keep the paragraph breaks.

Any suggestions?
