i am a new user of mysql database engine. I am using an autoincrement field or my transaction serial number. It skips example 41,42,43,44,45,46,47,48,49,54,55,56... what could be the cause. Thanks....Btw if incase needed by server is freeBSD.
Don't quote me on this but one possibility (I guess I could test this theory before posting, but naw), is that failed INSERTs still increment the auto_increment fields. I know this is true in msSQL, maybe so in MySQL. The only other thing I can think of is that you are purging records here and there. MySQL will not back-hole fill auto_incremented numbers so if you write 46, then 47, and purge 47, the next record will still get 48.

Thanks, i'll try to monitor the inserts if there are fails, so far i haven't purged the db yet.
