Selecting data

Can someone please help me.

I would like to select all rows from a database that contain a certain word within it.

I am using the line;

$sql="Select SchoolName FROM Schools where AreasCovered LIKE '$_POST[Town]'" or die("Error in selecting the town:" .mysql_error());

The database contains a number of rows which have the right info but it does not select anything!!

Will have something like "Town 1" "Town 2" "Town 3" in 1 cell

Can anyone help on this?

 
$SearchString = $_POST['town'];
SELECT schoolname FROM schools WHERE areascovered LIKE '%$SearchString%'

if $SearchString = town then this will return:
atown
townb

if you have %$SearchString it will return
atown only
and $SearchString% will return townb only (think I got those the right way round)...

does that work for you?

if the user is entering the data you might want to consider the case they use as well
