Need help on sql query for searching genders

I am working on a dating website and looking to a major problem for days.
In mysql there is genders MALE FEMALE AND COUPLES
i would like them to find eachother with a searchform that is driven by a searchfile.
Untill now it only comes up with "any" genders, and that is not suppose to happen.
Can someone help me on this please? so that
"male and male" "female and female""female and male""female and couples""male and couples"and "couples and couples get the right matches when looking for them.
I would really appreciate your help, cause this thing is driving me crazy for days.
