Format Variables inside email body

I have looked and looked and even asked on mail lists but still have not succeeded in finding the solution for this.

I have a form on a page which once filled out and submited passes some variables to be placed into an email.

I have a number of variables to be placed into the BODY of the email and would like to know how to format the email BODY so the email has correct line breaks and spacing etc.

So for example if I pass variables:

$name
$phonenumber
$address

into the BODY, how would I do this and then how would I format them with line breaks??

You would do this the same way you format any other text field, just because it is going in an email does not make a difference really.

For line breaks you need the \n character added for example.

That assumes of course that you are talking about a plain text email, if it email is an HTML one then obvioulsy you would use HTML tags for the formatting.
