When should I use Date or Timestamp?

Can anyone give me some enlightenment on when should we use Date or Timestamp for our date processing in PHP.

Whats their advantages and disadvantages?

Normally I use DateTime for my database because I know how to set its range in SQL, but for Timestamp I have totally don't know how should I manipulate it. If Timestamp is faster than DateTime, then I think I should give a try on it.

Can anyone teach me how to manipulate it as well?

Well if you read the MySQL docs on date/time functions it should tell you about speed comparisons if i remember correctly.

Now timestamp and date

Now date you cannot easily subtract or add a day or a couple of hours to. But with a timestamp its in seconds. So basically you add 1 to add 1 second to. It is good as a comparison to. But depending on what you wanna use timestamp for id suggest using datetime
