how to change a files timestamp?

How can I within a php script change the timestamp on any given file on my linux server? I have been searching google for hours but haven't found any answer.... please help!

Yes, use the built-in PHP touch function.

Note: File Ownership is required, so if you don't have permission to the file (say you FTP'd the file originally and you wanted to touch it through PHP to change it, you will get permission denied)
