Actually it is an opinion. Maybe you think that it would negate the entire purpose of SSL certificates, however, to negate the process would be to provide false information, not to obtain certificates for free. Let me guess, you love Bill Gates as well? Linux is the devil?
Providing the information for free would not negate the SSL process, and I do understand the process of requirements for obtaining SSL certificates, I have worked for the last three years with companies that use SSL certificates more than plain old HTTP processing of forms. A free certificate could still be provided under the standards of cost-basis certificates, including tax ids and so forth, but there would be no charge.
