creating sessions

Hi, I am a php newbie.I wish to create sessions to handle users when they log in to my web application. This what happens.
I have a login page which displays a list of courses after the user logs in. The itemized courses are hyperlinks to a form (on another page say main_form.php) that the user fills for each course. After the user fills the form for the course he has clicked I want to go back to the login page but this time not to show the login interface again but to show the list of courses corresponding to the user who has logged in.I understand sessions can help me do that. But how?
Note; the list of courses being displayed is pulled from a database.It varies from user to user.

When you have a question needs answered so you can move on with your project, it's easy to get anxious for an answer.

The thing to keep in mind, however, is that when we ask questions, we are basically asking the forum to do us a favor and help us.

You'd need to register one (or more variables) with a session: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.session-register.php

In your case that would probably be a user_id ?
This variable will be available to all scripts during that session that call session_start().
