Coding and DB Problem

Hi:

I am designing a reservation system with mysql. It works almost fine but there is one thing that i do not know how to control. I will try to explain it.

Example:

Two clients A and B and one server S. One seat left called seat=0

Client A request the reservation form and see that there is one seat aviable. He or She waits. (seat=0)

At the same time Client B request the same reservation form and see that there is one seat aviable. B reserves it!. Now seat=1

Now, because A has not refreshed his browser, for him the seat will be equals to 0 and he of she will be able to reserve creating a duplication error.

Any suggestions on how to solve this problem, please?

That's why when someone tries to reserve, you should check AGAIN if seat == 0. In your case, when client A tries to reserve, you'll check again to make sure that seat == 0 before reserving.

I have followed your suggestion, I created a function that check for the available seats right before inserting the new ones. It works great!

Do you know if this is way done by hotels and airlines? Are they any other ways to do it?

Well, I haven't worked for hotels or airlines, so I wouldn't be able to answer your question, but I think it's logical to solve it this way...
