Dynamically generate links based LoginID/username.

I'd like to dynamically generate links based LoginID/username.

For example, if I normally have a link like this in a table (appearing in overall_header.tpl or index_body.tpl):

<tr><td>http://www.sitename.com/click?</td></tr>

I'd instead like it to look like this when a user logs in:

<tr><td>http://www.sitename.com/click?UID=username</td></tr>

I think if you reply, I will be able to use your code to solve another one of my problems. I am just learning php (two weeks of trial and error!) and I just need a good example of dynamically generating stuff.

MY preferred choice would be this - assuming that $username is your variable...

<?php

echo "<tr><td>http://www.sitename.com/click".(isset($username) ? "?UID=$username" : "")."</td></tr>";

?>

If that makes any sense!

Thanks for the reply, but I think there is a syntax problem with the code. I just get this (I inserted it into index_body.tpl):

"; ?>

If you can respond again, that would be great. Actually, if you take the time to respond again, this is what I want to modify, slightly different than what I originally posted:

<tr><td><a href="sitename.com/click?">click here</a></td></tr>

into looking like this:

<tr><td><a href="sitename.com/click?UID=username">click here</a></td></tr>

when the user is logged in.

Also, can this php code be inserted into any .tpl page?

I know that you are just learning PHP but is there a reason why you wouldn't use Sessions? The only reason I can think of is if you are sending the UID to another site other than your own.

Yeah, I am sending the UID to another site other than my own, you got it.

I don't know what Sessions are yet, either.
