email down does mail keep trying?

Question is if my email is down will a form on my php site keep trying or does it try once and if it fails doesn't try again?

Or does it depend on what email smtp I am using?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

As far as I know this depends only of the configuration of the SMTP server you're using, so PHP doesn't have any "authority" on this.

Beware that even if your form brings back a quick response (something like "message sent"), that doesn't mean that your e-mail was sent, but means that it has been sent to the SMTP server.
