regular mailbox Interrogation

Hi

I want to write some code to allow me interrogate a mailbox conatining email. This script should check each of the emails individually and then if they contain a value conduct a action does ne1 know if this can be done with php and if can ne1 know of any script i can referrence. In addition i would also like to run this script periodically without manual intervention.

The action i am looking for is similar to the one that occurs when a email is sent to a mailbox and that person is removed from a mailing list.
