ODBC over a network

It seems that ODBC can't really be used over the network. If I'm wrong please correct me, but my expereince so far (which is not much) is that it can't be done with atleast php. So I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to complete one of my min projects now.
I'm trying to just view information on a msaccess database that is on my local network.
I'm running apache 1.3 on windows xp.

I'm looking for anyway to read this database (besides copying over the database to my local drive. That would be too much).
Any ideas?

You can definitely do it with ODBC. It sounds like your not setting up your DSN properly. Read the windows help.

ok. Your response made me look into the problem a little bit more. I found the error I'm getting means something else then what I though it was.

Error:

Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides., SQL state S1009 in SQLConnect

Anyone know a fix to this?
I'm using apache 1.3 server, windows xp (and 2000 on another computer).
