Check for file existance

I have a PHP website and it's running great. The way it works is that I have a template page, thanks to sarah, that is called with every page and then a secondary page is called for the unique information. Here is how I would access my contacts page:
http://localhost/template.php?x=contacts

What it does is it calls the template.php and the variable x determines what .html page to include. I need to be able to check the existance of a page before displaying it because if someone calls:
http://localhost/template.php?x=contact
it displays a page that looks like crap because it's just the template with no unique info in it. I'd like to check to make sure the file is present, if so, display it, if not, display a general error page. Can someone help? Thanks, Jeremy

I assume your using IF or Switch statements to display your html code.

If so one extra else/case does it for you 🙂

Example:


if(x=="Contacts")
{
//disply html page
}
elseif (x=="Homepage")
{
//display homepage
}
else 
{
// display error message

}

Look in the manual for the function "file_exists($filename)"

It returns TRUE if the file specified by $filename exists or FALSE otherwise.

Actually I'm doing this to include the secondary HTML page's source:

<? include($_GET["x"] . ".html"); ?>

How can I modify this to use the fuctions advised in this thread? Thanks, Jeremy

I guess you want somthing like:

$scriptname = $_GET["x"] . ".html";

if (file_exists($scriptname))
{
include($scriptname);
}
