Order By Number

ok,
i have been wondering this for a while now. I want to order some table entrys by the number of downloads they have. When I order them it goes in order up to 9 and at 10 it gets wierd.

An example of this is:

Number Of Downloads:
File A : 9
File B : 8
File C : 5
File D : 10

How do I fix this?

what is the field type for the field 'Number'??
i suspect that the database field is non-numeric.
