Tables

I'm sorry if this is not a php question, but I figured that I would give it a shot. I have seen many sites that use tables and you can see once the site loads the tables will change sizes almost like they are adjusting to fit the data inside. I have dealt with static html pages and I know you can do a percentage to deal with the table width, but what I would like to do is have a table on the left a table in the middle and a table on the right that no matter what the user is viewing 800x600 or 1024x768 the tables will fill the page and not interfere with each other. If anyone could give me a link to where a tutorial may be on this topic I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you tried putting your 3 tables inside another larger table made up of a single row with 3 columns... ?

notionlogic's suggestion would be the way I'd tackle it too. Just remember that the cells in the larger table need valign=top 😃

Actually using notionlogic's way creates nested tables, and there is some in the web design community who frown upon using such code to design a page. I would suggest using CSS for layout. Once I started to learn CSS, I almost never coded a table unless it was for a class and it was required of me to do so. You can still use CSS with tables too. I just try to avoid using nested ones because it tends to be a bigger headache then it needs to be. Eric Meyer on CSS is a great practicle CSS book, and http://forums.webdeveloper.com/ is a good place to go to ask questions about CSS and other things.

Spufi has it right, css is the way to go. It's almost always compatible, gives you clean code, and it's VERY powerful. Remember to follow the standards outlined at http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/. Standards will make cross browser scripting so very much easier, thus creating a better Internet experience for all 😃
