Apache + PHP basic forms problem

Hello,

I have used my own pc (win98+apache+php) to start learning php and created a simple form that pointed to a processing.php file to echo variables from the form. This worked normally on this pc, but when I moved it over to my newer testing server (win2k+apache+php) the processing.php echos blank variables from the form. I cant seem to find an answer for this, yet I'm sure its something very simple, probably dealing with the right configuration of the Apache http server and/or PHP setup. Please help! 🙂

Possibly register_globals is off ?

Are you accessing the variables in processing.php as $variable or $HTTP_POST_VARS["variable"] ?

i am accessing the variables through a short format, and my register_globals setting is set to the default.

where does register_globals option reside? i wasnt able to find it in the httpd.conf file...

notionlogic is right. You probaply installed newer PHP to your server and in newer PHP's default config for register_globals is off.

Btw, you can use just $POST['variable'] or $GET['variable'] depending which method you use in your forms. This is much clearer if you use other predefined variables like $SESSION,$SERVER etc.

Excellent! $_Get['variable'] worked, i also changed the register_globals option in php.ini

"is register_globals = on" such a huge security issue? I am building up an intranet page that will be accessed from inside network by default, and from outside only through authentication.
