Multiple Groupings?

I need to get some results grouped together.

I am selecting Continents, total number and weather types from a table. I plan to use these to make a grouped bar graph. So basically, I need to group the total number (i am summing a field) by continent, but also by disaster type...for example

let's say my table looks like this

africa 10 flood
africa 20 flood
africa 20 drought
europe 10 snowstorm
europe 5 snowstorm
europe 10 flood

i plan to have a bar graph that lists continents on the x axis, total number on the y axis and then have multiple bars for each country for each weather type.

so basically i need to come up with a result that looks like this

africa 30 flood
africa 20 drought
europe 15 snowstorm
europe 10 flood

what is the query i need to use to get these values? Since I take it you can't realy group by two seperate fields

Of course you can group by more than one field... can't you? I'm sure I've done that before...😕

Isn't it simply "GROUP BY field1, field2"
e.g.
select continent, disaster, sum(qty) from tablename
group by continent, disaster order by continent, disaster

or something like that?

duh i think you are right heh. i was using GROUP BY field1 AND field2..instead of using the comma.....major brain fart...thanks.
