i got a book about PHP and MySQL it also tells you how to installed them from the source code, it says to install the .tar.gz one and then place in the /tmp then into /usr/local/ i don't know were to find those folders! i hope you guys can help me.. or.. do i have to create hose folders?

Do you want to install them under Linux/Unix? The directories should be found in these OSs.
If you want to install them in windows, just follow the instructions for windows.
