HEX to ASCII

I have a string of HEX chars.
00 fe 04 ...
I want to get the ASCII character represented by each byte. I've searched both this site and php.net and all I can find is functions to convert base (hexdec, octdec, etc...) but not one that displays ASCII characters.

anyone know how I would do this. I know I've seen it before, but can't remember how.

Use hexdec to convert from hex to decimal, and then use chr to convert from decimal int to ASCII.

Thanks, that worked. Of course, it returned me data that I couldn't make sense of. The data came from a packet that a program tried to send out but my firewall intercepted. I was trying to decipher the information being sent.

Any ideas how I can do this with some php code?

Well, it would help to know what kind of data is sent....if it's an integer, then try looking at every 4 bytes and conver them to int. Or if it's a double (or float), check every 8 bytes....
