DW Double Spacing My Files

I work with about 5 or 6 other PHP devs. 2 of us use DW and the rest use UltraEdit. When the other DW user or myself open some php documents in the DW editor the code view comes out all double spaced. If you open the file with vi or any other editor for that matter (notepad, pico etc.), it looks normal with single spacing. We can't figure out if there is some sort of funky string that UltraEdit exports that's causing DW to open the files double spaced or if it's DW itself causing the problem. Has anyone else ever experienced this? We've contacted MacroMedia support as well as posted on their usenet but haven't received any feedback.

it must be some char that other editor puts in the code, because i use a lot dreamweaver and notepad and don't have that problem

I have had the same problem with DW - but it only happens on my home computer, not my office computer. Go figure. I have thoroughly searched through the dw help info and found nothing but I'm sure it's a setting somewhere.

It's really frustrating because I go back and forth a lot, and by the time I'm done with a file after opening it several times and saving it at home, it's triple-spaced or quadruple-spaced even.

I know, this is NO help to you, but at least I can commisserate 🙂

I found the solution to this. Open the file in pico live on the server, save the file by typing control-o, hit enter to save it by its original name, control-x to exit. This strips out the DOS formatted line breaks that the crappy editor UltraEdit puts in there.

As an aside, I switched over to Zend 2.6 and love it. I write all my PHP on a different layer than the html so I don't really need the design stuff from DW. Zend's ability to catelog my classes and auto-complete my custom methods while showing my the required arguments makes it well worth it. Now, if I can just get my company to pay for a license when my trial runs out...
