calendar layout

I have a calendar on my site, and when a date is clicked that date and the next six days are all displayed. My problem is that all the days are displayed in one long page, I can't get the days to be grouped with the date as a header. In other words,

This is what I get:

01/20/03 sdfasdfsadf
01/20/03 sdfasdfsadf
01/21/03 asdfsadfasd
01/21/03 asdfsadfasd

What I want is

01/20/03

sdfasdfsadf
sdfasdfsadf

01/21/03

sdfasdfsadf
sdfasdfsadf

The events are all in one database table with the date, time, event etc, I just want it to group by the dates instead of just printing them all in order ungrouped, I tried group by in mysql but it didn't work the way I thought it would.

Any suggestions?

Create a loop per date, so :
for ($i=1; $i<rows; $i++)
{
if ($date == (get_date()) )
{
fetch_row()
echo row;
}
}

and so on.
(This just to give you an idea)
