tracking bounced emails

Hello,

Can anyone tell me how to track the bounced emails?

Suppose I send emails to 5 addresses thru mail command, there is a possibility that either the email address is invalid or the recipent's server is down.

Now I need to make a report of how many were successful delivery and how many are bounced back..

I read somewhere that you can set the 'Return-Path' or 'error-path' in the mail header but then how would this help me generate report.

Any suggestions/comments are welcome.

I am not a master mind in emails
but I think "Return-Path" is just an indication of the email address the target client will use in case he/she clicks on the reply button.

But in any case if the mail does not correspond to an existing recipient the target server will bounce back your email. So one choice would be to create a script recognizing which emails are bounced.
