Where I work we use worldpay

They seem to be very good. Best to get an Internet Merchant ID from your bank first though.

Depends which country you is in.

Im in UK and like Datacash - no PHP API as yet though so it's up to you to do the comms - but their new system uses https - so a quick look at the curl libs would do you well.

We use and recommend Verisign- I don't know how expensive they are in comparison to others, but we have had excellent customer service since signing up and virtually no problems. We do have our merchant account with a local bank though - i recommend that as well.

How has your experiance with verisign been as far as customer support? Have you had to use that yet? From what I hear, its pure hell.

Verisign is nice to use. I have configured PayFlow Pro to work with a home grown shopping cart. You pass info into a shell script and it works well.

Simply sign up for a trial of payflow pro, download it and call the script from php - done. The hard part is error checking. You have to manually script the error code lookups - other than that - it's fine...

Have you thought about using Paypal. They provide a number of services including account validation, fraud protection, and so on. Also there are test websites (i.e., eliteweaver.com) where you can test your shopping cart.

There are quite a few variables that can be passed back and forth between the payment processing server and the web server (i.e., your server).

It's easy to use.

Ya, except for the nasty parts, like when they freeze your account, or they allow chargebacks a year later. Or so I have heard. See: www.paypalsucks.com

I've used Paypal to process orders from customers for over a year now and have found the experience to be satisfactory.

Also, I've ran two businesses using Paypal and have tested order processing very effectively also.

I've also communicated with Paypals tech support and have been provided good support. And last, I'm not sure why the people on Paypal sucks website had a bad experience.
