Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER ??

Good day. I am using PHP 4.3.0 on Windows XP Pro w/ SP1. I used recommended php.ini with register_globals turned off.

I tried to use $_SERVER[HTTP_REFERER ] to get user's URL but "Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER" error occurs. I tried typing URL on location bar and clicking on HREF link but no luck. I checked phpinfo(); and can't find the HTTP_REFERER variable as well.

May I know the reason behind? Is there anyway to enable it?

This is just a guess, but maybe the referer doesn't exist when you go to the page therefore is undefined/not registered. What you could try to do is create another page that links to the page in question and click the link. That would give you a referer. Hope this helps.
