Hi.
What exactly does $HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE return?
It dont seem to return OS or Browser language.
It rather looks like its returning the location of the visitor..
I read about it in the PHP manual, but that didnt give
anything....

Wich is it?.. i need to know as im using it in a script
that im building.

"Contents of the Accept-Language: header from the current request, if there is one. Example: 'en'."

doesnt tell me much about it, tho'.
It tells me 'en' as in 'english' or 'england'..
but WICH is correct?

The real question here is:
Can i use it to display their location? 🙂

If you read the ISO 639 they explain it as 'languages' but to be honist: i think its OK to use it either way..

I don't think it is related to their location. I could be using my laptop in new zealand and you would get en-gb as my location.
I think it is the languages the pc/browser will accept or something similar. I have a logging script that users the variable in question and on the log display page it shows Lang = en-gb, which I presume means English Language sub Great Britain. There is an entry that says 'en-us' English - United States? another says 'fr-ca' French - Canadian? I'm not sure you can get their location using this method, the closest I've seen is tracing the coutry through the ip block stored in $REMOTE_ADDR.

Basically it gets the language of the computer.
So if i had mine to let say chinese. It would output ch i think.

Hmmm.. I´ll look into this... a friend of mine from Denmark checked it and he got 'da' as output... and he is using a English install
