magic quotes override? / iis / mysql and mssql

I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle...

I'm developing two completely seperate sites on the same windows 2000 development server. One site needs to use mysql and the other project needs to use microsoft sql.

IIS is my web server.

My problem is that I need magic_quotes_gpc for the mysql site and magic_quotes_sybase for the microsoft sql site.

It appears that in IIS you cannot override php.ini by placing it in a specific directory as you can with apache...

does anyone have any ideas as to how to override the global magic quote settings in the php.ini file?

gpc breaks my mssql site and sybase breaks my mysql.... very frustrating.

(and yes... i know "run apache instead" and "get another server" are both the right answers but just can't be done under the circumstances)

You can change the magic_quotes_gpc (and sybase) ini variable on the fly using the ini_set function in PHP. Here is the man page for it :

unfortunately ini_set doesnt work with IIS and the magic quotes directive (if you look at that url or look around on usenet, you'll see some other people out there have fruitlessly attempted to change php.ini settings via ini_set using IIS.

Any other ideas?

php developers ---> PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE FIX THINGS SO YOU CAN SET PHP SETTINGS ON A PER DIRECTORY OR EVEN PER SITE BASIS WITH IIS!

You should be able to test if these settings are active and adjust your code accordingly.

For example, when using mssql, get posted data with something like:

function get_posted_data($name)
{
  if (get_magic_quotes_gpc ())return stripslashes($_POST[$name]);
  else return $_POST[$name];
}

You will have to wrap up all the things that depend on these globals.
