delete blank lines

Hi guys,

I need help in deleting blank lines from a file. what i've done is after reading a file, i filter out certain words using

eregi_replace("my reg. expr", "", $file)

but this removes the lines i want and replaces them with blank lines i.e. ^$ is there anyway to delete these lines altogether?

Does your regex include the carriage return at the end of the line? If not your deleting the words but leaving the hard return which shows up as a blank line blank line.
