Creating a NEW e-mail address/account

Hello to all! I am new to these forums (but not to programming or PHP).

I am trying to find a way to create a new e-mail address/account on my server through PHP (or Perl, but this IS a PHP forum). I'm fairly certain that it is possible, as my host provides a way for me to add e-mail addresses through a web interface. However, I have searched high and low on the web, forums, and books trying to find a solution, but have been unsucessful as of yet. I have found numerous webmail interfaces, but NONE of them will allow you to set up a new e-mail address--they will only allow you to send/recieve e-mail from an already existing address. Any help/suggestions/comments/redirection or a simple "It can't be done" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My host also has an interface where i can create new email accounts, but if your host doesnt support this there wouldnt be any way

Let me elaborate a little more:

When a user creates an account on my site (for access to the forums, etc.) I would like to give them an e-mail address with my domain; I am looking for a way to do this automatically when the user sets up their login. My host DOES have a web interface for me to access to create new e-mail addresses, but I would prefer not to have to set them up manually each time a new user is created. Is there any way to code this in PHP (or in Perl), so that the e-mail address would be created automatically. (I don't need the full code, just the function or functions that would be necessary to create the e-mail accounts). Thanks in advance for any help or assistance that you may be able to offer.

well... you could write your own email program. Though that's probably not what you're looking for. If the email addresses you're handing out to users on your site are given to you through your web hosting company, I'm not sure you'll be able to do that. Unless, of course, you could contact them to help you out on that.

I'm not trying to find out if I can do it (ie, if I have the proper permissions, installed libraries, etc.); I'm only trying to find out how it could be done, theoretically. Again, I do know that it is possible, as I have seen it in use by my server at work and my host! If I had access to the source code for either, I could find it myself, but unfortunatly that's not possible. Someone has got to know how to do this!

in php there is no function doing that,
you might check HOW the interface does it, maybe the interface is not even written in php

The interface that my host provides is written in perl; the interface at my office is definitely PHP (although it may be using the PHP to invoke a non-php command). As I mentioned earlier, I am looking for such a function in PHP or Perl (or any other language that may be applicable). At this point, I imagine that it is not possible, at least not in the way that I was intending. Thank you all for your help! If anyone does come up with something, be sure to let me know!
