one time action

Hello,

Hopefully I have not missed this function in the manual...

I want to send an email out automatically, one time, upon completion of a task...that completion is indicated by the existence of a variable, but that variable will not go away after the email is sent.

Make sense?

In other words, once $x occurs, email should be sent, but $x does not go away...and I only want to send the one email...

Any ideas?

Read the manual on mail(), it does what you need 😃

Also, the variable value should remain intact during the script, as long as you don't kill it.

i must be missing something

i have no troubles sending mail(with the mail function), and no trouble with the variable.

However, i only want to send one email the first time the variable appears...the variable will always be there after it appears once, but i don't want to send an email every time...

I didn't see this in mail()...

apologies if i am missing something

You could have a variable called $alreadysent which you set after you've sent the first email, and have your function check for this variable before it sends it, so you can only send one email.

thanks for the responses..my apologies if I used a php forum for a logic or programming question.

I ended up using a Y/N variable, so it's all good now...
