hacking mysql

Well, not really .. more like forcing it to change a setting.

I have a row which is auto_increment its already counted to 10, but I want to hack/change "Next Autoindex" from 11 to 5, so it starts auto_increment from 5 then 6,7,8,etc..

I cannot seem to edit this value via phpmyadmin, I just want to change the "Next Autoindex" to a different number, any ideas?

There has to be a way to force it to auto_increment on the number i want it to start at. someone asked this same question here: http://www.phpbuilder.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10218689&highlight=Next+Autoindex

you could always enter a value into the id field... i've done that... using mysql front.. but its only a matter of sql.. after youve entered the post then go back and change id.. (if id is the auto_inc...)

I have done something similar. I had to add an auto-increment field after I created a table and had lots of data. I can't remember exactly what I did, but it went something to the effect of dumping the table in phpMyAdmin and editing that file with the proper edits to re-import it into the database. This probably doesn't help much, but it was something I did over 2 years ago.

your right, thats what i had to do.. I had to edit all my ID's in myphpadmin then drop the table and recreate it.. oh well, it only took me like 10 mins to do, thanks.

ALTER TABLE table AUTO_INCREMENT=#

That will reset the next AutoIndex to the # specified.
