Can I print PHP code within Perl?

The following Perl code seems as though it should run, but it doesn't. Am I missing a fundamental "can't-run-PHP-from-Perl" rule?

#!/usr/bin/perl

print <<END;

<?php
$log = $HTTP_COOKIE_VARS[My_User];
if ($log == "")
{//do some stuff}
else{//do some other stuff}
?>

END

i honestly dont know the answer.

i have a few suggestions though.

could it be the extension of the file? like file.pl file.cgi
maybe chaning it to file.php ?

another thing that popped in my head was using eval.
but i believe there is an eval for perl too. so that just might confuse things.

other than that, it 'seems' that it should work. too bad it doesn't 🙁

I would have though not, the PHP program on you server takes a PHP file runs it then give the person who requested it a HTML document acording to what happened in the PHP file execution (in basic terms).

So in order to get a PERL prog to run PHP i think you would have to make a tempoary file, and then redirect to that file.

May i ask as to why you want to run PHP through PERL, do you need to?

I don't absolutely need to, no ... all I'm doing is looking at cookies and an SQL database, but both of those I can do happily in Perl. I just had the code already set up in PHP and wondered if it was viable, that's all. Guess not!
