how to get email address from an IP

i traced the ip and its a aol user..... so what next?
any help greatly appreciated

unless they've got a dedicated IP for their account (leased line or some such) then i think that's as far as you can get. And even then, it's probably quite likely that it's an AOL server and not actually the "end user".

If you could get email addresses from an IP then i think spammers would have a pretty endless resource from which to gather new addresses to plague... Thankfully it's a little more secure than that.

Since I'm not totally sure what it is you want from this, I can't really tell you a whole lot. Why not email abuse@aol with the IP and the time? IIRC, they keep logs for at least several days.

Yup, as jpmoriarty said, the only chance you have is if its a dedicated IP, and even then its still hard. With some ISPs, you can look at the hostname associated with the IP, for example:

212.150.15.250
jsmith.ispprovider.com

In the example above, you could try [e-mail] and you have a reasonable chance of getting it right. If the hostname comprises of sets of digits or dots, its un-emailable 🙂. Hope that helped.
